VE DAY TRIBUTE: The Story of Aintree’s Noble Quartet

As one of Britain’s most famous sporting events, the Grand National is steeped in drama, triumph, and tradition. But woven into Aintree’s remarkable history is a lesser-known story: The Noble Aintree Quartet – four champion riders who galloped to Grand National glory before making the ultimate sacrifice in the Second World War. This VE Day we doth our cap to Bob Everett (1929, Gregalach), Tommy Cullinan (1930, Shaun Goilin), Frank Furlong (1935, Reynoldstown) and Mervyn Jones (1940, Bogskar) who never made it to see jump racing resume. Their legacy lives on in the very heart of the racecourse, reminding us that the spirit of courage and commitment runs deeper than sport alone.

This year, Evertaut was proud to contribute to the Grand National’s iconic setting, bringing together the finest aspects of British manufacturing and design. Working in collaboration with Ambla Contract Upholstery Fabrics UK, whose luxurious Richmond Poppy fabric was selected for a recent Evertaut project. Evertaut produced exquisite bespoke stadium seat covers that made a bold and unforgettable statement across Aintree’s world-famous grandstands.

Behind these stunning visuals lies a highly skilled team and meticulous process. The design and manufacture of stadium and arena seat covers is a true craft, requiring precision from start to finish.

Evertaut’s team began by carefully templating the plastic seat design, ensuring every cover would fit its unique shape snugly, whether it be in the fold down or tip-up position.
Using a combination of pattern cutting techniques and machinery, each cover was cut and prepared to hug the contours of Aintree’s grandstand seating. The result? A flawless, secure fit that not only elevated the visual impact of the arena but also guaranteed durability and performance in a demanding stadium environment.

Made to measure, Evertaut’s seat covers add an extra layer of comfort and luxury for stadium VIP guests. Each Poppy red cover at Aintree was embroidered with The Art School logo, creating a striking impression within the grandstand. Better still, these seat covers are cleverly designed to be applied without the need for removal of the fixed arena seating – a huge time saving on application.
